A new Northport school is in the works as part of the Tuscaloosa County School System’s answer to capacity issues.

Fifth- and sixth-graders from five current elementary schools would feed into this new school, set to open across from Northport Elementary School.

One major concern of parents is that the new school is just moving the problem instead of solving it.

“Everyone is excited about growth for the city, but it’s basically turned into what seems to be a mega-school,” said concerned parent Darlene Willis.

This new school is set to open August 2019.
